What to do

Our house is situated in a very quiet area. It’s in a tiny village where mainly inhabited by older residents , with a few holiday homes that are not rented out. To find activities, you will need to explore the surrounding area. One of the cupboards contains brochures and maps with information about local attractions. Below is an overview.

Nearby Cities and Towns
Périgueux and Limoges are just a 45-minute drive away, while the tourist town of Sarlat-la-Canéda is reachable within an hour. Many picturesque villages are also nearby.
If you love castles, you are in the right place. You can follow a castle route or visit the Château de Hautefort, with its stunning gardens and park offering spectacular views. On a hot day, visiting one of the nearby caves is a great way to cool off. You can also visit the impressive village of Oradour-sur-Glane, a memorial site with a very moving history.
Sports enthusiasts will also find plenty to do, including canoeing, cycling, swimming, hiking, and golf.

If you prefer bustling streets, crowds, and lively boulevards, our area may not be what you’re looking for.

A large swimming lake is less than a 15-minute drive from the house. You can swim, sunbathe on the beach, or enjoy a meal at the lakeside restaurant. Various water sports are also available, including canoeing, pedal boating, water skiing, and a treetop climbing course.

Hiking is another great option. A scenic 7-kilometer trail circles the lake. Dogs are not allowed on the beach during peak season, and the area is supervised.

This village was completely destroyed by the Germans in just three days, on June 10, 1944, with 642 casualties. Only six people survived.

The village was preserved as it was and serves as a memorial to the victims. A visit is very moving and highly recommended.

Castles and caves

The Dordogne region is full of castles and caves to explore. One of the castles pictured is Jumilhac-le-Grand.

You can follow a castle route associated with Richard the Lionheart (Richard Cœur de Lion), visiting 23 castles over 200 km. An interactive map is available to plan your tour.
